Above all, don’t fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.
Above all, don’t fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.
-Rita Levi-Montalcini
This quote means that you shouldn’t fear negative side- effects as they often lead to the best results or that it’s important not to be afraid of trying something new.
Saying “Above all, don’t fear difficult moments” reminds the reader that you are facing something difficult but staying positive is the way through.
This is a contrasting short piece of advice compared to “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” as it suggests that you should keep going through the bad, instead of seeing it as a hurdle.
Why we don’t fear difficult moments.
Don’t give up
When you feel like giving up, remember that great things come from overcoming obstacles. When we think about the best times of our lives, many of those memories come from difficult situations where we had no option but to keep moving forward no matter how scary it was. Even if you don’t believe it at first, you’ll realize that it’s true once you look closely.
Moving forward requires energy
It’s simple physics. Moving forward requires energy. Sometimes all you want to do is stop, but if you really want something, sometimes that means being in a position where you have to work harder than ever before in order to get it. To be honest, that’s what I was thinking when I started writing this article. I felt like stopping. I didn’t want to write about difficult moments, and life in general anymore. But if you choose to cling to something with all your heart, it’s going to require an enormous effort sometimes. And so here we are.
The truth is that we live in a society where we try our hardest to avoid difficult moments. We want to live a life without problems, so we search for utopias and fantasies where nothing bad happens, everything goes as expected and everyone is happy. It’s comforting to think that way. But the truth is that those utopias don’t exist. And if they do, they are full of people who tried desperately to keep them that way, and they don’t last long. That’s why when someone tries to sell you their utopia, be very careful.
Final thoughts
We are never given more than we can handle. No matter how difficult that might be to believe in certain moments, it’s the truth. Don’t fear difficult moments; not only will they make you strong, but they might end up being some of the best experiences in your life.
